Hi, this is my first time writing in the blog and i might be using mixed language or “bahasa rojak”. Mainly, the rising of food price and oil has affected us so much that we have been hearing the topic being discussed everywhere in kopitiams, web and offices. The main reason of this blog is for us to share ideas with our government ‘up there’ for everybody’s benefit.
I’d also agree that we must be reasonable that the oil price increase are affected by the world market price.Even our neighbouring countries like Thailand and Singapore are paying about RM5 for a litre. However look at our purchasing power. Our per capita income is about one-third of Singapore,US and UK. In other words, our purchasing power are lower comparing to them.
Earlier, before they announced their way of giving out the schemes,i thought the easiest way is by using a petrol card system either in RM or point system. This can be worked out with any banks to issue a petrol card which can be accepted by all petrol stations. We could get them to apply using their income statement (same like applying credit cards) and the subsidy can be controlled by giving more to the poor and less to big income earners. This way,we could balanced out the subsidy used. Logically, the poor uses low cc cars and have only 1 or 2 vehicles while the rich usually use more petrol because they have bigger cc cars and they have more than 2! When you have used all the credits or ponts given, then you will start to fill using your own money. While again that was before the announcement but theres no harm trying, for the sake of improving.
I truly feel that government have to do something in order to improve the situation. If this continues, our inflation would become greater, there will be a large gap status between the rich and poor. And soon, more social problems will occure.
Method 1- Control Property/Rental Price .Theres no harm of discussing or looking on how other countries deal with issues. And why not, improve it. There are some issues on property i.e price, renting cost, control on development which Singapore did which i think may be considered. Just imagine, renting a double storey terrace in Klang Valley costs us about RM1200 a month. Now thats a month salary for some of us. This forces married womens to work so that they could contribute to the household income. And kids have to be sent to child care or left without parents at home. We could at least try to divide the areas according to radius km to KL and give them a benchmark of rental rate. This would at least help the low-mid income earners cope with the living cost an have a bigger purchasing power. I might not be an expert, but we wanna have a better living and peaceful Malaysia.
Method 2: Control Market/Labour Charges. As a business owner, i dearly want all my worker to get a minimum salary of RM2000,especially when they are our own RAKYAT MALAYSIA. From my experience, I know the pain of paying all the bills and not having enough to save. But the business disallowes you to do that. For example, if you send your car for to a carwash. A good and proper carwash will charge a sedan size car for RM12(which means they are in a shoplot or bulding and uses a biodegradeble foam). While there are a few road side ones, or ones at petrol stations which charges a crazy low price of RM5! Can u imagine of the hardwork washing the car in 40 minutes per car and we are asking more discounts. And I have checked the rates around the world,Malaysia’s carwash rate is 1 of the lowest. Hey do you know it takes you RM40 to wash your car in US? So,the only way tauke can afford to run this business is by employing foreign workers. Our Malaysian cannot ‘tahan’ this kind of work because it is low paid. Now more problems occure, the overflowing of foreign workers, social problem they are carrying and more jobless Malaysians. So, by controlling and enforcing the labour charge or at least a bench mark will keep our economy stable by making the business stable-a higher paid MALAYSIAN worker-less foreign workers brought in and less social problems. And this goes to a lot other business, car workshop, restaurants and etc. (especially those involving foreign workers)
Yeah, our goverment monitoring system will be need to make this happen. Lets start with all the things involving our basic needs. Transportation, Food, Child Cares and Housing Sector. Once we start controlling, less foreign workers will be needed, less social problems. More productive Malaysian.
